Intel introduced the G45
chipset this week and we had an opportunity to finally see it in action during an
Intel sponsored event. From a home theater and media center vantange point we expect
this chipset to do quite well. Our first impressions were terrific as we finally

After being blitzed by the NVIDIA marketing machine at CES 2008 about upcoming chipsets, we were excited about the technological possibilities NVIDA was planning to deliver a few weeks later. The Atom processor's architecture is not about being the fastest, but being good enough for the tasks at hand. When Phenom launched it was slow, later plagued by a performance-hindering TLB bug and priced entirely out of the realm of rational thought. It's a new year and while I'd like to say that AMD has learned from all of its mistakes and will be back to a fully competitive state, that's only mostly true. It was literally a week before we received our Phenom samples that many within AMD learned of a serious erratum in the processor that could potentially have a significant impact on system stability or performance, depending on how it was handled.
